This suite of training was developed as a result of a Department of Health funded project that was to produce guidance and training material regarding the handling of medication in social care settings.
Work was ongoing and has involved the chief pharmacist from CSCI (who was on the steering group) along with CSCI regional pharmacists, who attended consultation workshops, and all CSCI pharmacy advisors. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has also been involved and has endorsed the material we have produced. Pharmacists from PCTs, Social Care Employers, and the Primary Care Nursing Network contributed to the development. The previous minister, Liam Byrne, has provided a forward and is promoting the use of the materials. The suite of training provides the underpinning knowledge for the relevant NVQs; HSC 221 and HSC 375 and covers the Skills for Care Medication Knowledge Set and they are mapped to the GSCC Codes of Practice.

Delivered Courses
A one day Train the Trainer programme, for a maximum of 10 trainers. The day also includes a Trainer’s Manual for each participant, which includes timetable, trainer guidance, handouts and slides.
