Sorting out Working Time and the National Minimum Wage
30 October 2009, Sheffield
9:00am - 1:00pm
Many social care employees work unsocial hours, or sleep in or live in their workplace. The European Working Time Directive has been the subject of prolonged negotiation in Brussels and there have been many court rulings. All of this makes compliance difficult for services. Equally, the National Minimum Wage regulations are being affected by Employment Appeals Tribunal decisions in ways which no-one had predicted. If you have sleep in or live in staff or pay at or just above the National Minimum Wage this seminar is a must for you!
Session 1: The Working Time Directive
Areas to be covered include:
– The basic rights
– Exemptions
– Claims
– Is there anything to worry about?
– Practical steps
– Things which can go wrong – even if you think you are right!
Session 2: The National Minimum Wage regulations
Areas to be covered include:
– Working/available for work
– What can employers do?
– Implications of not paying the National Minimum Wage
The cost of one seminar is £40 per person for ARC members and £60 for Non-members (a saving of 10% will be applied for bookings made on all 3 seminars).
