Moving on Planning Ahead

 

What’s the project all about?

Following on from the Making Money Easier Project, Moving On Planning Ahead (MOPA) is designed to help people with a learning disability to plan for their future.

They will receive information about living independently and what that really means including information about how they can pay for things, the support available to them and any benefits they could be eligible for.
The following is being developed in co-operation with United Response:
  • Website
  • Guidebook
  • Training events, designed for people with a learning disability their supporters and care staff.

Developments in the project so far

Moving On Planning Ahead pilot sessions were held in May 2009 in Chesterfield, Bristol and London. These sessions were aimed at people with a learning disability and their supporters.

Moving On Planning Ahead Train the trainer sessions were developed for managers, trainers and/or support staff to help them support individuals with learning disabilities who are thinking about moving on and planning ahead.


Moving on Planning Ahead Trainer'sThe Moving on Planning Ahead Trainer's Manual and Easy Read Guidance have been developed and have been very well received.

Those attending the Train the Trainer courses have offered excellent feedback and will be using the materials in their work place.




Expected outcomes for the future

The Easy Read guidance will be available for individuals with a learning disability to work through on their own or with a supporter  
to help them make decisions about their future.

The Trainer's manual will be used in the organisations that participated in the Train the Trainer courses. They will be used to support people with a learning disability to make to decisions about moving on and planning ahead.
