Handling Medication in Social Care Settings

A range of training materials were produced following an ARC Department of Health funded project, which reviewed the handling of medication in social care settings.
Handling Medication in Social Care SettingsCSCI Inspectors, Skills for Care, service providers and other healthcare professionals were actively involved. The materials are endorsed by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and CSCI, they are tracked to current NOS and GSCC/CCW Codes of Practice and the Welsh Social Care Induction Framework and in England they meet the Skills for Care medication knowledge set learning outcomes.

The Stationery Office (TSO) publish and distribute the following three publications:
  • Training Guidance and Resources (for use by trainers or managers who wish to check their current medication training or design new programmes)
  • Distance Learning Pack
  • Trainer’s Manual

The following Handling Medication in Social Care Settings Taught Courses are available though ARC:
  • Delivered Course, (based directly on the Trainer’s Manual)
  • Train the Trainer course (for trainer’s wishing to deliver the Handling Medication in Social Care Settings training, it takes them through the manual step-by-step providing extra information and advice).

TASS UK offer optional Independent Assessment for the Handling Medication in Social Care Settings training. Learners can complete an Assessment Booklet which is then sent off for Marking and Certification. Further details of this can be found in the pack.
