Action Against Abuse

A guide to best practice in preventing and managing sexual abuse

The more people with a learning disability know and understand abuse, the more they are able to keep themselves safe. The three Action Against Abuse packs have been developed to assist support workers, families and service users themselves, in work around this subject.

Action Against Abuse (Service User)The Service User's Pack is written in simple text, reinforced with illustrations and Makaton symbols, to improve accessibility for people with a learning disability.

Action Against Abuse (Support Worker)The Support Worker's Pack is designed to accompany the Service User's Pack and present clear information to allow workers to recognise and repond appropriately to abuse.  It also has a section linking this work to LDAF and the NVQ Standards relating to adult protection.

The Families' Pack is to raise families' awareness bout abuse and to know what to look for in selecting a service, and to support them in different situations they find find themselves in, in relation to abuse. This pack may be of particular interest to Parents' Support Groups.
