Moving Into Management

Professional Development for Management and Leadership

Many new managers, and those who plan to become managers, have development needs relating to:

  • Management and leadership skills
  • High quality support of people who have learning disabilities

To help meet these needs, ARC is offering a series of flexible higher level learning resources based on groups of units from the Higher Professional Diploma in Learning Disability Services (HPD).

Range of Modules

ARC offers three fundamental learning modules, covering priority areas for manager development. The modules are:

  • Managing a person centred service
  • Leadership and team management
  • Business planning and finance

Each module is firmly set in the context of learning disability services. Additional topics may be available by negotiation.

Flexible Options

Organisations can access these learning modules in flexible ways, to create tailor-made programmes for their new or potential managers:

  • Each module is complete in itself and can be accessed as a stand-alone course
  • Modules can also be grouped together to create an extended management programme
  • Each module follows a five-day programme. The standard pattern is two blocks of two days with a one follow-up day; other patterns can be agreed to meet organisational needs.

All taught programmes are delivered by ARC's experienced professional management trainers.

Optional Assessment

By completing assignments, learners can achieve units from the Higher Professional Diploma in Learning Disability Services (HPD). Each module covers two HPD units, awarded by City & Guilds. HPD units can be used as evidence of knowledge for RMA and HSC NVQ units (Level 4).

ARC acts as the accredited centre for the HPD, providing quality assured learning, tutor support and assessment.
