Valuing People Now

Valuing People Now

It was announced earlier this year (2007) that the Department of Health were seeking to 'refresh' its 2001 White Paper, Valuing People: a strategy for learning disability for the 21st century. It felt that there was a need to set a new focus and direction for the next few years.

This new policy document is to be launched at the beginning of December 2007, after which it will be subject to consultation with the final document being issued in 2008.

At Learning Disability Today in October 2007 it was indicated that the following would be the 'big issues' to be included for people with learning disabilities:

  • have choices and control over their services
  • better health
  • what people do in the day, and paid jobs
  • better housing
  • making the Valuing People vision happen
