ARC Annual Conference 2008

Tuesday 18, Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 November 2008
The Royal Court Hotel, Coventry

The ARC National Conference continues to be a major landmark in the learning disability sector calendar. Each year the conference explores the key issues affecting service providers and provides the opportunity for debate, support and the inspiration to take things forward. This year is no exception, providing the insights and ideas for providers who are facing the challenge of meeting the needs of people with a learning disability in today’s and in tomorrow’s world.

Grand Designs: from plans to reality

The theme this year goes to the heart of services in learning disability. Individualised services are now a reality and people with learning disabilities are looking to providers to help them turn their own ideas for a service designed for them into a reality.  This is not an easy task whilst also keeping current services going!  Do you need support, ideas and inspiration to help meet their needs? Or just want to take the pulse on what is really happening in the marketplace? Either way, this conference is for you!

Key areas we will be looking at include:

  • Knowing who your new customers are and how you can meet their vision
  • Understanding the government’s plans for social care
  • Looking at ways forward for providers who want to develop new personalised services
  • Understanding how the new regulatory body (Care Quality Commission) will affect service providers
  • Ideas for making real change in your own service
  • Developing (and keeping) a skilled workforce for the new service models

Guest speakers include:

Ivan Lewis, MP, Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Care Services

Baroness Young of Old Scone, Chair of the Care Quality Commission

Anne Williams, National Director Learning Disabilities

Barbara Macintosh, Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities

Tom Noon, consultant, Cordis Bright

Dr Philippa Russell, CBE, Chair, Standing Commission on Carers

Keith Lewin, Partner , Brunswicks LLP

Plus many other inspirational speakers and facilitators. One Grand Design that is already coming to fruition is the ‘Qualifications and Credit Framework’.
Be the first to hear about how it will all work and what it might mean for your workforce.

The Minister will make the launch announcement of the new Qualifications in Learning Disability.
