The South West region covers the counties of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall and the Regional Development Officer’s post is shared by Iraina Clarke who covers the north of the Region (Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Bristol) and Roderick Landman in the south.

ARC has five Branches in the Region to meet the needs of its members. Three of these sit within existing regional boundaries - Cornwall, Devon and Avon/Somerset/Wiltshire. The remaining two now straddle boundaries - South Coast, which includes Hampshire (officially South East), and Three Counties, which includes Hereford and Worcestershire (West Midlands). These latter two Branches have chosen not to split owing to historical affiliations.

Branches meet quarterly (see Events for current dates) and provide a fantastic forum for information, discussion and networking. High profile speakers from CSCI, Learning Disability Partnership Boards and other purchasers and planners are often in attendance. The very latest policy and funding information is always available (Rod Landman represents ARC members on the Skills for Care Regional Committee), and the Branch network is able to draw on the vast array of specialist information held by national ARC staff.

The challenges faced by the South West include the vast geographical spread, the huge number of Social Care services and a disproportionate amount of clotted cream!
