LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course participants will have a basic understanding of diabetes and will be able to:
- identify factors which might make people more vulnerable to diabetes
- identify factors which might make people more vunerable to hypoglycaemic attack
- be aware of signs of hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia
- understand how to respond to hypoglycaemia
- identify how to support the self management of diabetes
- identify the related conditions that can develop in people with diabetes
- identify ways of helping a service user to minimise the risk of developing complications
- follow specialist advice
- maintain accurate records
- understand the possible social impact of diabetes for the service user
