Person Centred Networks
ARC Scotland supports PCP groups in:
Definition of a Person Centered approach
Keeps me really involved; great to have an opportunity to be focussed and to know I can access support whenever I need it- member of the West of Scotland PCP Network
Person centered approaches allow a person to explore who they are, what they value and set out a direction that will enable them and respect their right to take control of their lives and make the decisions about their lives.
Person Centered Approaches focus on what the person can do and where possible normal community and social resources that allows the person to normalize a quality of life and have a position in their community that is equal to that of a person with no specific support needs.
Person Centered Group Objectives
To develop a person centered approach to facilitate a positive change for individuals to enable them to achieve goals that are important to them and to promote full inclusion in society. The person-centered approach should provide vehicles to ensure that individuals are listened to and that the necessary service delivery, design and supports are in place to achieve what is important to a person.
The PCP group should be focused on problem solving and negotiation to mobilise the necessary resources to enable individual aspirations to be achieved. It should also provide opportunities for service providers or employers to adjust their operations to allow people to achieve their goals.
The PCP group should have an important role in informing; energizing and supporting individuals, groups and agencies to ensure a commitment to and knowledge of person centered planning approaches.
