Learning Outcomes

By attending and participating in this course, learners should understand:

  • What is meant by Support with Personal Care
  • The importance of empowering individuals to make choices regarding their personal care
  • The importance of sensitivity, dignity and respect when supporting people with personal care
  • The possible effects of not involving individuals in decisions about their personal care
  • How background, culture and personal beliefs affect feelings and ideas about personal care
  • How other cultures can differ in their approach to personal care
  • The social functions of hygiene and personal appearance

In addition to tutor input the course comprises of group participation exercises, individual exercises, case studies and an optional assessment of the learning linked to relevant SVQ knowledge and understanding requirements.
